About the event

The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) is a state entity responsible for managing water resources in the 16 counties under its jurisdiction. The SWFWMD Governing Board has mandated once-a-week watering restrictions for users of potable (drinking) water and water from private wells for irrigation. Modified Water Shortage Order SWF25-015 was enacted due to extreme drought conditions, a continuing reduction in water source levels, and a thirteen-inch rainfall deficit.

*Another important point to share is that starting April 17th, 2026, a municipal ordinance violation (MOV) will be issued for all watering restriction violations. This includes first time violations observed by enforcement personnel. No Warning Notices will be issued. A MOV is a formal judicial process involving the County Court System. The citation for a Class II Municipal Ordinance Offense is subject to a $193 fine, plus court costs. Subsequent violations will involve higher fines as assessed by the court.
